The Practopia Project announces Searching for Hope AfterAmerica, our effort to address the widespread despair caused by the breakup of the United States of America.
For most people, the collapse of the federal government and splintering of the nation into corporate fiefdoms, micro-nations and city states came as little surprise. After years of political polarization, economic instability, and climate chaos, the end seemed inevitable.
Of all the problems we face AfterAmerica, the loss of hope is the greatest threat to our collective future. Reversing this loss begins with changing the stories we tell about what is possible.
Which is why we have dedicated our work to sharing the stories of practical utopias being imagined and built from the rubble of the former nation.
These are not stories of techno-utopias or myths of rose-colored pasts that never existed. They are pragmatic, often imperfect, examples of what is possible when people come together to challenge fear and hopelessness. Each is unique. None is perfect. All share a belief in the power of community and collaboration to create better tomorrows for everyone.
Extracting these stories from the chaos of collapse will be no simple effort. It will require the dedication and hard work of a legion of writers, reporters, podcasters and others. Soon, we will provide more details on how interested parties can join our efforts to observe and report.
The project begins with a series of reports from our roaming reporter, Johnny Darlin. He’ll be sharing his search for innovative communities emerging from the ashes of the American dream.
We hope these stories will inspire you to join us in reimagining our futures together.
